What is a good, free website designing tool?

I’m just getting started ( still in the thinking about it stage :) making my own website. I’ve never done it before and don’t really know where to start. I checked out yahoo’s web hosting and it seems to be pretty good?? But now I’m wondering where to get a good ( preferably free) website designing program??

Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All !

  1. Most web design programs are crap. Frontpage and Dreamweaver are the most popular ones, and all they do is create crappy looking sites and get you into bad coding habits.

    As a developer, I urge you to lear to code by hand with a good programming editor. Good editors provide a lot of tools and features like code highlighting and indenting.

    If you really want to use a web-specific editor, look at nVu.

    A real good free programming editor is Notepad++, also free:

    These both work on Windows.
